Andy Shennan is Professor of History and Provost Emeritus at Wellesley College. He served as Wellesley’s chief academic officer for 20 years and as its inaugural provost. A specialist in 20th century European history, he is the author of three books: Rethinking France: Plans for Renewal, 1940-1946 (Oxford University Press, 1989); De Gaulle (Longman, 1993); and The Fall of France, 1940 (Longman, 2000). Professor Shennan is a graduate of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. He also received his Ph.D. from Cambridge University. He held a Harkness Fellowship in the Department of Government at Harvard University and was a research fellow at Cambridge before joining the Wellesley faculty.
