Zoe Marks

Zoe Marks is the Oppenheimer Faculty Director of the Center for African Studies at Harvard University and a lecturer in public policy at Harvard Kennedy School. Her research and teaching focus on the intersections of conflict and peacebuilding; race, gender, and inequality; and African politics. In addition to her research on peace and conflict, Professor Marks is committed to creating space for conversations about ethical research praxis and making academia more inclusive. Dr. Marks holds a DPhil in Politics and MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford, and a BA in Government and African American Studies from Georgetown University. She has previously worked for U.N. and non-governmental organizations in Ethiopia, France, Sierra Leone, South Africa, the U.K., and the U.S. Her research has been supported by the U.S. Institute of Peace, Russell Sage Foundation, U.K. Economic and Social Research Council, U.K. Department for International Development, Swedish Folke Bernadotte Academy, British Academy, Carnegie Trust, U.S. Fulbright Program, and Oxford Beit Fund.
