No country in Africa has had more varied peace missions than Sudan. The Sudanese experience, especially during the years 2002-2012, has been seminal in the evolution of peace missions in Africa. The negotiations themselves have served as a principal arena in which Sudanese politics have been conducted. This paper provides a detailed analysis of previous negotiations for peace in Sudan and the impact of these negotiations on present day politics in the country. This paper also includes central lessons that can be drawn from the Sudanese experience of peacemaking and peacekeeping missions.
